Matt Damon Says Ben Affleck Is In A Good Place As Social Media Slams Katie Cherry As A Bad Influence

Alcoholism is a horrible disease and it’s important that recovering alcoholics (and other addicts) surround themselves with positive role-models who support and encourage them in their recovery. Ben Affleck has battled his addictions in the public light and he also has a good support system. When things were getting out of control, his ex-wife Jennifer Garner stepped in to help the father of her children and the man she was married to for 10 years.

BFF Matt Damon will always be there for Ben and the two are currently working on a project together. Matt spoke about Ben following what has been reported as a Halloween party relapse that saw Ben Affleck stumbling by a car while out with his new apparent girlfriend Katie Cherry.

Matt Damon expressed his love and friendship to Ben as they have been friends since childhood. And though Matt was very positive with his remarks, not everyone is convinced that Ben is hanging out with people who are going to support him in his recovery.

In fact, social media is slamming Katie Cherry as being a bad influence on the Oscar-winning actor, writer, and producer. Some are referring to Katie Cherry as a “party girl” and social media users are saying she is not someone that Ben Affleck should be spending time with as it will only take him away from his sobriety — and in turn, his family.

Fans waited a long time to see Ben Affleck reach sobriety and they truly care for him. Many of them hope that one day, he and Jennifer could get back together (though that seems unlikely) but Jennifer and Ben co-parent in an amazing fashion and the two frequently support each other, privately and publicly.

The last thing Ben’s fans want is for him to date someone who may be a negative influence, even if it is unintentional. Ben Affleck hasn’t stated if he had a relapse and if so, who or what the cause was.

Additionally, there are people who say it is unfair to blame Katie Cherry for Ben’s seeming relapse. They say that he is a grown man and responsible for his actions. If he relapsed then it is on him and not anyone else.

What do you think? Do you think people in recovery should choose who they spend time with carefully and only surround themselves with those who are sober and support their recovery?
